African Union Meeting in Nairobi and Migration visit to Dubai

Though the name was first used in 1095, it was in 1833 that members of the Al Bu Falasa tribe seceded from Abu Dhabi and established themselves in Dubai. Dubai is one of the 7 Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. Out of the 7 Emirates, only Abu Dhabi and Dubai have veto powers in the national parliament. In 1901, the Emirate became more powerful. However despite the discovery of oil in 1966, Dubai with largely Arab population remained virtually a poverty stricken fishing town without portable water nor electricity. With the emergence of the new prince, Dubai launched its development revolution and opened up to migrants especially from the South Asia. Within two decades, Dubai has emerged as a global city and business hub of the Middle East. It is also a major transport hub for passengers and cargo. The Emirate Airline is one of the top 5 Airlines in the world. Today the city of 88,8% of migrants has become a success story with less than 5% of the emirate’s revenue coming from oil. Dubai is to host World Expo 2020. Lesson learnt: OPEN UP YOUR SOCIETY AND BECOME A PROGRESSIVE NATION! Migration is more an opportunity than a challenge.

For this reason, the AU is striving for more labor mobility and intra-African migration. Africa is on the right path…

Do you know that with any African passport, you can travel to Seychelles without visa, you can as well travel to Rwanda and obtain visa at arrival…
